Our Story

Humata was created after our founder experienced firsthand how prior authorization delays care.

Humata was founded by Jeremy Friese, MD, a “recovering radiologist” from Mayo Clinic and Harvard, who experienced how prior authorization routinely slowed decisions, pulled clinicians away from patients, and added friction across the system.

Eight years ago, we began building the technology to change that. Today, Humata’s AI-driven solution has helped millions of patients access timely care by turning cumbersome manual reviews into fast, touchless approvals.

Now, as part of R1, we’re taking that vision to national scale. By uniting Humata’s AI-driven prior authorization intelligence with R1’s comprehensive revenue operating system, Phare OS, we are combining upstream clinical automation with enterprise reach. Together, we are eliminating administrative friction for providers and payers alike, turning complex review cycles into real-time approvals so patients get the care they need without delay.
